The first film I am going to analyse is SAW V, even though we are making an adventure/action film I feel watching this will help us get ideas for weapons and torturing when we make our opening sequence.
The opening sequence to Saw V uses music, special sound effects and camera angles to give the audience a starter on what is going to be shown for the rest of the film. The first 5 minutes of the film show the audience how horrific, gory and dramatic the rest of the film is going to be like.
The first frame of the opening sequence is the 'Lionsagte films' This lets the audience know who is making the film and who it is being funded by. This logo signifies that it is made by a big budget studio and will be targeted at a large audience.
The 'Twisted pictures' logo lets the audience know who the production company is. This production company specify in horror films. They have made all of the previous 'Saw' films which lets the audience know that they can be trusted and it will be as horrific as any of the other films. This logo instantly means that it will undoubtely follow the predictable codes and conventions of the horror movie genre.

When the credits start to appear on the screen you can sense the horror genre. The black background gives the audience a sense of fear as the music works perfectly with the credits. On each credit a bright light shines through the name as the background gradually gets lighter. The non- diegetic sounds do play a major part in these credits, when the light goes through the names the sounds get louder, and the tone changes. During this the camera is zooming in onto the actor being tortured, which finally reveales he is chained to a table and can't move. The music that is used is slow but very powerful.
The sounds used at the very start of the opening sequence change in volume and in pitch which give the audience every sound which is in the room that the man is being tortured in. This brings the audiences interest into the film which makes them want to know everything that is happening to this man. The confusion sounds and the lightening create an atmosphere of suspense. As the confusion sounds continue , light appears on the actor which reaveles what has happened to him. He then starts yelling for help.
The use of black and very mild colours reduce the amount of colour used, this also creates a tense atmosphere as the audience realise it is not going to be a jolly or happy film. The dark and mild colours then continues for the rest of the opening scene which continues to create suspision and panic, when the actor is trapped and doesn't know what to do.
Many different elements of the 'mise en scene' are used to create a tense, panic and a confused atmosphere. When he is chained to a table, it is dark. As the light comes on you can instantly sense panic, the quick change of camera angles helps this. One of the cameras spins round whilst zooming out, this creates confusion among the audience like the character experiences.

During this the actor is swearing and non-diegetic sounds are being used. Firstly you hear lightening which then emerges into different sounds, which has a major effect on this scene. Without the sounds the scene would be very bland.

In this scene there are mainly non-diegetic sounds used, (when it emerges from outside the world of the film). Without non-diegetic sounds films would be very poor, with no atmosphere. Non-diegetic sounds are used from the very start of this scene, even when the cedits were appearing. There is one diegetic sound used (exists within the world of film) which is lightening, which also creates a lighting effect, it adds to the spooky atmosphere. As the lightening is happening the sound track starts to begin, which blends in nicely with every camera movement.

This is the final shot of the opening scene, it is the establishing shot. It uses a wide camera angle to give the audience an idea of what is coming up in the film. The very long shot, shows the whole of the situation and asks the audience what is going to happen next. This scene is the perfect way for a horror film to start because it creates tension. panic and confusion, the best atmosphere for a horror film.
When video was first watched no extra music was there, youtube have taken the original off of their website, so unable to post that.
